Gliding Stars

Gliding Stars, an ice skating program for blind and/or physically handicapped youth and young adults, is the signature hands-on project supported by the Saratoga Springs Lions Club. The 2012 Gliding Stars Ice Show will be held at the Weibel Ave. Ice Rink on Sat., April 7th from 4-5pm.

Below is the 2012 practice schedule. All practices will be at the Weibel Ave Rink. The times listed are when we are on the ice. Please set aside additional time to get your skater or volunteer ready. We suggest 30 minutes prior to ice time.

In addition to covering the cost of ice time at the city-owned indoor rinks and purchasing special equipment to match the needs of each year's skaters, Lions and their family members lace-up their skates and offer on-ice assistance to the participants. Other Lions help off-ice in myriad ways.

For the participants, Gliding Stars offers an opportunity to have fun while learning new skills; improve balance and coordination; smile, laugh, and receive one-on-one attention and encouragement from members of the Lions community, and shine under the glow of the lights at the program's finale: a fully-costumed, choreographed show, performed to music and attended by parents, friends, and members of the Saratoga Springs Lions Club.

For the Lions and their friends, Gliding Stars is a very personal way to make a difference in the lives of others.
